What are Energy Credits Actually for?
Know it’s a silly question, but I’m honestly curious. I have amassed a large sum, but I don’t want to spend days shopping among 158 different vendors when most of the stuff I get in drops is more valuable. I don’t want to spend half an hour hunting the exchange for the occassional reasonably priced item.
I do see a few things that I want, but they all require badges of exploration.
It’s getting to the point where I just don’t care how much Star Trek money I have. I don’t have the patience to try to spend it by roaming the entire quadrant searching for a random vendor or hunting the exchange.
It’s kind of crazy. How do gold sellers make money when it’s so hard and frustrating to actually spend the credits in STO?
It seems so disorganized. Am I missing something?
The only things I’ve really spent credits on are: ship customizations(cheap) and uniform changes(cheaper). As for “gold-sellers”, I’d be surprised if there were more than one or two people actually buying it. The gold spammers will be there no matter how unsuccessful their business is. It’s their job to impede us, interrupt us, drive us mad.
I use energy to buy cool stuff at the exchange before I get it as mission rewards. Then when I get it as a mission reward, I sell it and get my energy back. For me, it’s more like a bank than an exchange.
Nope you’re not missing out on anything. Gold sellers actually had to split their price in 3 lol. I guess they finally figured out they’re being way overpriced and hopefully they’ll go away completely soon enough.
There isn’t anything to really spend money on besides on what’s already mentioned. This is also the reason why the Exchange is so overpriced, since people have too much money to spend others are asking too much of your money.
Personally I’ll try to gather as much EC as I can in case it might be useful eventually… Cryptic said they might add stuff like Fleet stations later on and we’re saving up donations in my fleet so that we can buy one, however it’s currently not clear if that will actually go through. Unlike WoW/ Aion/ pretty much any MMO there are no major money sinks in STO. It kinda fits the theme that the Federation did away with money.
Currently I have 6,5 million EC, on a slow day I make 200k, on a good day 2 million EC. Lately I’m only spending about 2 hours an evening on STO while waiting for more content, so I’m not making a lot of EC right now.
I also found a new pet project to entertain myself with, decking out my tier 4 ship with mark X stuff. Since I love my Discovery class so much better with looks then the Deep Space Science vessel I’m gonna fly that ship again. I also did away with the Rear admiral rank and I’m now back to captain (with the RA gear) to fit more into the game universe. I’m also gonna set up some roleplaying community in my fleet with a couple friends, so even if there won’t be new content for a while we’ll keep ourselves easily entertained.
